[FIXED] Stuck at the very first dialog [LINUX]

Post by SinDromX »

Hi,

I'm running Wasteland 2 Director's Cut (2.3.0.5) on a Ubuntu 14.04 x64 machine.

The game starts properly but at the very first scene of the game (dialog with general Vargas), the interface is missing pretty much everything I need to get going.
The dialog UI is displayed but no button is shown, I can't do anything, clicking everywhere doesn't do anything, ESC key doesn't show the menu (not sure if it should though).

Typing in anything in the dialog box is of no use either.

Here is what I get:

Can I do anything to make the game work properly?

Thanks!

I added a Linux tag to your title, so maybe the Linux folks here can help. It's probably (possibly?) a dependency issue.

Hum, what graphical card/driver stack are you using ? Are you sure you've pulseaudio running ? Are you using GOG or Steam version ? Did you try redownloading/installing the game in case of a corrupt file ?Could you try to give us a Player.log file ?

Sorry for answering with lots of questions, but it's hard to solve a problem without more data ;)

Hi, thanks to both of you.

I'm using a GeForce GTX 560 Ti (lshw: GF114 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti]) with nVidia Binary Driver v352.63
The game is the GOG version.
I didn't try redownloading the installer yet, I'll do that this weekend.

I'll check the Player.log after work.

You could also try to remove (well, rename, safer) the 'lib/' directory, GOG bundles some system libraries (like libstdc++) with the games, sometimes it works better with their own version, sometimes it works better with the system version (which will get used if you rename the libstdc++).

Also check if you have all the 32-bits libraries (it should crash before if you don't, but who knows...) as explained on http://www.gog.com/support/wasteland_2_ ... _this_mean

It'd be useful to get a Player.log file, as it might indicate what's going wrong.

This sounds like the Unity3D file handler bug, see my post here for a potential fix: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=14060&p=164139#p164139

Hi guys,

A big thank you tonurics, the issue was indeed the limits!
The game is now playable, I look forward to finally being able to play it :D

I had a lot of the following errors in the Player.log file:
Could not open file /home/sindromx/Softwares/GOG Games/Wasteland 2 Directors Cut/game/WL2_Data/resources.assets for read
The log file is now pretty much useless but nevertheless, here it is http://pastebin.com/15Ff3uQf

Hopefully this can help future victims of the limits config :)

Thank you, this helped me a lot.

To semi-permanently increase the file limit when starting the game you can add the line

Code: Select all

ulimit -Sn 65536
at top of the file start.sh in your game folder.

You might have to adjust the number to whatever

Code: Select all

ulimit -Hn
tells you is possible ;)
