Batch 4 - Bookshelf (2) (WIP)

Hi!

New here, thought it would be fun and started on that bookshelf, still need to make a normal and specular map for it, and optimize it somehow, cause right now it stands on 659 tris.

I'm unsure about Unity's usage of transparency (via .png files with an alpha channel, or some sort of a mask?) or will the backfaces be seen and how will they be shaded.

Looks cool.

By default Unity doesn't display back faces on it's "standard" materials (shaders). There's some materials that have it (like those used for trees and plants, etc), but the lighting is a bit funky on them. You can easily make your own Unity shader and enable display of back faces (you don't need to use the Shader API, Unity offers it's own simplified version). If you want I can show you some code snippets for this.

For transparency using a transparent PNG will work ok.

Fiddled with the normal and specular maps.

Yeah thanks, as I've never ever really tried unity any help will be greatly appreciated.
As soon as I figure out how to run Unity4 on Ubuntu - read it's possible.

Alpha map in the RGB channel.
