How many worlds?

Post by cyseal » December 28th, 2015, 2:53 pm

I'm not sure but the Bloom is a place with waypoints to another worlds ?
If so are theese waypoints magical or scientific ?

Some of the writers mentioned Earth. How is the Earth connected with the Bloom ?
Does the Ninth world have something in common with number 9 ?

So many questions...

The 9th world is technically the Earth 1 billion years in the future.
It has only one super-continent and bears absolutely no marks of our present civilisation, but it is still the Earth.
Concidering the worlds, Iguess there will be some sort of quest line in the Bloom (which is, in fact, a gigantic superdimentional being stuck on Earth), including the travel to other dimentions.
Maybe The Last Cast-off will be lost in this dimentions somehow, and we will have to find the way out or some such.

"Magical or scientific" is a bit an odd question for Numenéra, since one of Numenéra core principles is Arthur C. Clarke's "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Technically it's all "scientific" (swarms of nanobots, curving of space-time, ...) but it appears as magical for many of the inhabitants - and for our limited 21st century technology too.

The Bloom is a location on Earth, 1 billion of years in the future from now.

That's in LEO (Low Earth Orbit) like the ISS is, but that's not the Bloom. I'm not sure that location has a name yet, nor even that we'll visit it during the game.
That's the Oasis of Mra Jolios, one of the "stretch goal" we reached during the KS, it's definitely on Earth in a desert. "Where on Earth" doesn't have much meaning, it's Earth one billion of years in the future (and reshaped by powerful civilizations), the continents are not the same than now, there is no "Europe", "Africa", "Asia" or "America" left.

Also, speaking of number 9 - the 9th world is called so because the locals believe there to be 8 previous worlds (great civilizations), there own being the 9th. Numenera is a collective term for the remains of these previous world.
If you interested here is a map of the 9th world's continent from the guide book. The "Sagus Cliffs" in the South-East shows where the game will take place.

Pretty sure there was an Ice/Crystal type dimension/world mentioned during the Kickstarter. There was even a picture of it done.

They are structures that can be found, not just markings on the map.
I don’t remember just yet if anything about these structures can be found in the main rulebook for Numenéra, I’ll have to check later.

The circle in the south is the Clock of Kala, a ring of mountains, inside which live the Augurs of Augur-Kala.

We do not have any ice areas in the game, but we do have the Ascension of Kex-Lianish, the crystal area you can see.

The Bloom's connections are ultra-dimensional, meaning they reach through worlds and realities.

Do you imply, that there is a difference between the two?

As a wild guess, I would say that different worlds would be space travel (going to another planet or moon that is in our currently observable universe), and realities is something "weirder" (parallel universe, virtual world, ...). But then it's not like the Last Castoff will be much able to tell apart one from the other ;) Apart perhaps that if the laws of physics are different, it's more likely a different reality.

I really want to play nano and take this world apart piece by piece to see, how's it ticking. =)

Does the "Tides of Numenera" have other meaning than alignments?
For example, did Sunken Market get flooded by the sea tide? https://cdn.inxile-entertainment.com/to ... Market.jpg

Definitely a worthy goal, but I doubt TTON will have the scope necessary to actually succeed in unlocking all the secrets ;) Some of the mystery will remain forever...
