LA Area Sneak Peek

Post by Brother None »

The LA area of Wasteland 2 will have a markedly different look than that of Arizona. A sneak peek.

The LA area doesn't look as good as that now. Before the bomb!

Does it have giant hermit crabs that use cars as shells?

If so: nice!

I dunno about that. Sort of looks like Ag Center with street lamps.

Not really. AgCenter has a heavy rural vibe. This is clearly urban ruins, overgrown. None of the locations in Arizona are like that.

Thanks for the screen shot! I definitely like it, though it feels more suburban than urban. The lack of massive skyscrapers with massive overgrowth gives that affect. It makes me wish I could see the full map from a high up view, to get a real urban effect, with lots of buildings visible etc. I do agree that it is a different vibe from Ag Center. Ag Center is green and all but has a very unnatural feel to it (obviously). This feels very natural. This particular shot only shows a couple large buildings and a smaller one, so could be outskirts of the city, more of an uptown feel. Of course, moving around the map could totally change that feeling. Being able to see more structures at once would help as well, which is unfortunately one of the down sides to an isometric/top down view. You are limited to a very local area in your view and can possibly lose out on some atmosphere of the area.

Can use cars as shells AND play naughts and crosses? Those are some smart crabs.

Screen shot looks good, but it would also be nice if a few of those random buildings could be entered and explored.
The biggest failure in the recent past is this assumption that the audience is not smart.Too much effort is being spent making it dummy proof..all the clues are being held right in front of their nose. The exploration and journey is the reward

Amazing job, I love the overgrown green look. I wonder if my theory of LA being infected by the same mutagen as the Ag Center turns out to be true.

So nice to see the green. I know AG had greens but AG is more to the depressing side. This one's more like a literal urban jungle with lighting urging you to be on the adventurous side and explore everything.

Acid-spewing too. I think they'll be in LA, otherwise what was the point of that throwaway mention of them in the novella?

I hope we see sprawling skyscrapers with overgrowth as well. Picture looks good, crabs should have a variety of car bodies through don't you think? Would be hilarious to see it wear a jeep cherokee.

There is what looks like an apartment building on the right, though it's fallen over or been swallowed by the ground it seems.

You know, I have to say it, I'm almost starting to prefer WL2 graphics to Fallout 1/2 or Wasteland, those games definitely gave more freedom in environment movement, but the "square" tile-based graphics look way too clean. Wasteland 2 has a real cluttered crapsack look about the environments with everything looking like a disaster area, way better for a post-apocalyptic world.
