Feature request for controller/gamepad: Fix unresponsive A button (Xbox controller) for in-world object/NPC activation

My problem is that I often need to press the A button twice almost every time I want to interact with something in the world. I tested it a bit, and it seems like if I run up to an object or NPC and press A while my character is still in the running animation, my controller input is disregarded. But if I wait for a half-second, after the animation has stopped completely, when I press A, it works the first time.
There are multiple ways I can see this being solved. The first and easiest way without scrapping the pretty decent animation work for running and turning is to just queue up controller input (but only one action) and then let that input play out when the running animation is finished.
However, I'm not a fan of how the running and turning animations make the controller experience of this game feel sluggish and unresponsive. If I'm on controller, I'd prefer to have a more direct 1-to-1 control over the character movement even if that means the character may unnaturally spin on a dime. I don't play these kinds of games for Uncharted or The Last Of Us grade animations. So, it would be my personal preference to provide us, controller players, at least an option to disable immersive character movement animations and as a result, get more responsive controls.
