Artificial intelligence in combat

If any combat is going to be challenging, especialy in the long run. The AI must be up to the task. Having a million tactical options and ammo types won't mean a thing if the enemy just zombies into a rain of bullets.

This needs serious attention and if different difficulty options will be implemented then it should not be a case of 200% health for all the enemies and 50% firepower for the player, but new strategies should be deployed.

Ai must be able to flank, perhaps sacrifice units as a diversion. any tactical suggestions are welcome.

Any thoughts on this ?

Oh look, a thread about something that's actually important.

Perhaps we can look at other turn-based combat games that had good AI and analyze them, see what they did well and how.
