64-bit version

Post by ADuck »

It would be nice to have a 64-bit version, for windows and other OS, in order to have a more optimal resource allocation. If possible please include one.

Agreed. We're talking about a late 2013 release and 64-bit has been around since 2003.

I also agree to this. I don't want to keep 32bit libraries around just for being able to use three "outdated" programs certain programs.

I would even argue that 64 bit should be primary. I am running 64 bit Windows XP. 64 bit has indeed been around for a while. With modern memory sizes it's hard to justify using a 32 bit system.

Since MacOS 10.8 will force developers provide 64 binaries of applications and most of Linux installations is x86_64, I think 64bit-builds of Wasteland 2 will be here anyway, at least for MacOS and Linux.

who cares if it's 64 bit or not? if it needs to allocate that much memory they will design it to do that

if it doesn't, they won't and it'll make no difference at all

i doubt that this is going to be a very resource intensive game

It would seem to me that limiting Wasteland to 32 bit might affect future potential mods? Even if its not memory-intensive now... whos to say that future mods won't need 64-bit capabilites?

Would have thought 64bit is pretty much a given for a game developed nowadays.

There should definitely be a 64-bit executable.

YES, DO THIS. Wouldn't it be nice to be up to date? Everybody's got 64 bit, so why the @*#( not? At the very least, it will stop some OCD people like me from complaining on the forums after the release. I know we probably won't be dealing with the insane problems that came when Skyrim PC was released and didn't have LAA support, but still. It's only proper.

There is very little point (performance advantage) to 64bit game executables.
Bethesda's idiocy has little relevance here. Sure, for Skyrim it would actually make sense, and their unwillingness to tick the simple LAA checkbox for years and years and years (before heralding it as a new feature, lol).... let's not go there.

I agree 100.11%! There needs to be(and more then likely there will be) a 64-bit version.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point of this topic. Of course there should be a x64, given the year the game's coming out. Now, x84 (or whatever it was) is a different thing.

Not really, there's very few 64-bit games out. Because most aren't using more than 2GB RAM and have no need for it. Do people really expect this game to need >2GB RAM when the "blockbuster" AAA games full of stupid amounts of graphics don't even need it? You can even use up to 4GB with a 32-bit executable by using the LAA flag, as someone already pointed out in this thread. There's absolutely no way Wasteland 2 needs >4GB RAM. What is the point of this topic?
