Hiya,

Will Chris Avellone be joining for WL3? I remember him being a stretch goal with WL2, and since I'm a big fan of his writing & game design, I thought it would rock to see him aboard on WL3. What is the general opinion from WL2 players on his work on WL2; were you guys satisfied, disappointed or just meh? Cheers.

The Wikipedia article for Wasteland 2 lists him as one of the designers, but apart from that I have no info on what was specifically his handiwork in the game.

He worked on one of the areas, but I don't remember which one.

I feel like he's wasted talent, unless included as a core dev, preferably involved with gameplay and narrative.

Maybe he can finally finish that WL2 novel he's been working on...

In case you were wondering, he is working on the novella. It's in the editing phase. I am not sure what the ETA is.

Chris Avellone should have taken some time out of his schedule about 20 years ago and become a major sperm doner, volunteered to be cloned, or had his brain mapped out and copy/pasted into an ai...because even at his most uninspired...well, you get the idea.

Chris Avellone being a WL2 "writer"/designer isn't much of a positive point for him. There were few intriguing things unique to WL2's storyline, and most of it's best points were action-centered instead of story centered.

-He has also compiled the Fallout Bible.- During that time, he wrote short stories and scripts for role-playing games, some of which were published in the Dungeons & Dragons magazine Dragon. -He worked as an Interplay game designer. -who was responsible for most of the storyline for the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

-What is the general opinion from WL2 players on his work on WL2;
We don't know what he DID. Maybe he brightened things up for all I know. But face it, the WL2 writing wasn't very inspired. (there was a lot of expectations, and little dialogue had the weight that WL1's did) The hymns, the use of the rifle poem, those were good points. But where were the memorable quotes, the takeaway one-liners, the really good writing? Half my "remove the swearing" reason is that it doesn't need lazy and disappointing filler dragging it down, the other half is that is doesn't need filth talking people out of enjoying the game. (and he swears during the youtube vid. Moron! facepalm) Keeping the language clean isn't the same as child-proofing a work. Yes, the dialogue in WL2 is there, it's just about as solid as could be expected, but not much of it has excellence. I've not read his Clone Wars stuff yet. (Hopefully not something to edge WL3 out of using the clone pods of Sleeper Base, or something similar.) If CA means better writing, perhaps even getting the WL1 style Chapterbook for WL3, he might be needed! He's been working on Torment and Kingmaker, but has he done any work on WL3 so far?
