Steal

Post by Lucas Jonson » October 24th, 2018, 9:54 am

There will be a "steal" option this time?

you're Rangers
not Raiders

you can't expect people to take you seriously when you go around picking pockets

To be fair, we could do a fair bit of theft in WL2.

that's more RPG world looting than theft
if nobody stops you, it's not theft
and there were still alarms

at that point it's a personal choice
I didn't dig up any graves in my games because grave digging is wrong
opening a safe and taking 12 scrap out so nobody notices is meh

Colorado is landlocked, right? Is there any way we could steal what'shisname's boat, anyway? We got vehicles for WL3, we could always steal a car or two from a locked garage. They can't _all_ be rusting on the highway. WL2 had that option to do a small bank heist in Rodia. We could go on to bigger and better things in WL3. It can't be any harder than the gold cargo salvage side mission. There's got to be an unopened bank somewhere. Not to mention Norad, and the Patriarch's special weapons vault. Assuming we're not distracted by a picture of some general's personal bunker and it's supply of forgotten pre-war wet-bar alcohol.
I wonder if we could steal from the robots? With their factory-building habits, they must have a supply of various precious metals, not just iron and copper.
Anyway, stealing is bad, even if you're Scotchmo. Stealing is when it's already owned by someone else. Creative salvage is good. Post-self-defense salvage is normal, around there anyways.

the way I see it, anything related to stealing in WL2 was either quest-related or just looting the world
if you want to finish the Rodia questline, you have to get into the bankvault, it's not like it's there just so you can rob it
and what's in there? a handfull of generic ammo boxes and one quest related piece of paper

and in RPG's, like say Fallout, I pretend it's either a few bullets so nobody notices you took them, or because there were a few left in the abandoned box
it's a game, it's not about realism
if there was an actual stealing system like Fallout, I wouldn't take any of it, but it's just looting the wastes and your enemies tbh

You can steal dental paste in Los Angeles, rather than trade some rather uncommon Prescription Pain Killers for it. Good thing my Rangers never feel a need for pills. And you can steal animals by using Animal Whisperer. But that's just bad, because there's no option to pay for them, even though they're slaughtered and sold as meat.

This game will probably have the same issue as Witcher 3. The role you're playing necessarily excludes you from doing certain things.

Who knows though ? Maybe it's not that bad, you could still pickpocket and steal from people even as a Grey Warden in Dragon Age: Origins. Hell, you could even engage in some quests that were specially made for thief-builds.

You've got to follow the thieves if you want to catch them. There is the point that at the end of the day you're still accountable for the reports that end up on Vargas's desk. Burning down the Thieves Guild and scattering the ne'erdo'wells is sure to be bad for a city. It's worse when the loot goes up in flames, too. Poor, poor, loot. But Warden or not, being called to the carpet in front of Vargas to answer for your "You just blew up a whole city block, Kung Fury!" might end up with a few problems- the stocks? Or a suicide mission to the Scorpitron Factory?

Not a lot of people realize that the "Tequila Recipe" quest is actually a heist.

I guess you could view it as a heist. It's more of a "rescue that McGuffen from the thing it's locked in by a bad man." Mayor's son or not, I think we're justified with shooting the idiot.

Sort of depends though, if you're really favoring the jerks then you're just trying to do them a favor; but if you plan on turning on them, then you're playing a long-ass con 8-)

But what if you're not planning on turning on them, and they just sorta talk you into it? Gosh that happens a lot...

There's always a crossroads though, the ultimate proof of loyalty comes sooner or later.

Loyalty is one thing. Slowly losing patience with WL2 and the worthless scumbags therein is something else. "Y'know what, you've convinced me the game will just be better once I remove you vermin from it." Not the robots. Not the business suit people. Just the trash. 8-) Peace and justice for all may mean bullets for some.

So? All gangs seem to have their peculiarities, and "not being raiders" seem to be a peculiarity of the Desert Rangers. Whether or not Team Echo conforms to this is another issue.

A gang that runs on the premise of not being assholes though.

The central command sure, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't have certain Ranger squads who behave in less moral ways, as Ranger squads operate very autonomously in the field.

It would be nice if that was modelled in somehow.

Presumably people would talk if a bunch of stuff went missing coincidentally after a group of Rangers turned up.

Could even be kind of cool to have you go after a rogue team of rangers.
It's not too late. Make it Eight!
