Remastered Character Editor

Post by Dcdoc45 » July 30th, 2018, 1:55 pm

Playing through BT3 from the beginning and I was wondering if the remasters will include a character editor to help make the characters match the ones you had from the old game. Like lvl, HP, etc.
Not looking to cheat, although this would make it possible, but I don't want to loose all the work I've already done.

Cheat happens has a nifty little utility that lets you edit values on the fly it's called CosMos
the CosMos_Beginner.exe is pretty much all one really needs unless you are looking to create a hard core cheat system.

Is that a hexeditor?

No its a memory editor, scans the game memory space and as you change the desired stat by upgrading it you research for what has changed. its fairly simple to use. Any stat that you can change you can home in on and set it the way you need/want it.

Cheat Engine is another windows app that can edit memory on the fly. Used a lot for game mods, and is free.

Like any of these apps, antivirus programs may flag them as a virus / Trojan. That is to be expected since they are modifying memory on the fly.

I've been using HxD on my save files and thus far have worked out the hex is different to the classic version.

I've not been able to edit the items save for the fact of adding charges back to max.

I wasn't able to edit items, but I found it easy to change the count in the store (it seemed to be a list of item name followed by count). I didn't get a second Conjurstaff to drop before I went into the final dungeon of BT1 remastered, so I sold it and duped it to avoid an annoying grind.

yeah, I could change the count, as you mentioned its the item name then a space followed by the count.
Ie. 46 6C 61 6D 65 20 48 6F 72 6E 01 FF Flame Horn..
Underlined is the item name and bold is Item count.

However, I found I could not add items to the store or characters I'd not already found.
As this tended to break the game.
did you manager to add items?

No, I only changed the count. It was the best that I could do, and it solved my actual problem (only one Conjurstaff). :)

Yeah, all I've managed to do as well.

What I have noticed if that you should not manually set the level or stats as this breaks the review board.
Just add the XP for what level you want and go level up. This way you attack/damage and other stats go up without breaking the character.

Resetting your current HP, Spell Points and Bard Songs doesn't seem to break it.

This is what I have:

NAME ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 76-- ----
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 01-- A8-- ---- ---- ---- 77-- ---- ---- ---- race
---- ---- ---- 01-- A9-- ---- ---- ---- 78-- ---- ---- ---- CLAS ---- ---- ----
---- ---- ---- ---- 09-- 79-- ---- ---- ---- EXP- EXP- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
---- STR- ---- ---- ---- INT- ---- ---- ---- DEX- ---- ---- ---- CON- ---- ----
---- LUK- ---- ---- ---- LVLc ---- ---- ---- HP-- ---- ---- ---- HPt- ---- ----
---- MP-- ---- ---- ---- MPt- ---- ---- ---- 02-- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- LVLm ---- ---- ---- 4E-- ---- ---- ---- spl? ---- ----
---- DISA ---- ---- ---- IDit ---- ---- ---- HIDE ---- ---- ---- CRIT ---- ----
---- SONG ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 09-- B0-- ---- ---- ---- 09-- B1--

---- ---- 01-- 25-- ---- ---- ---- 1E-- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- 06--
B4-- ---- ---- ---- 06-- NAME

Looks kinda messy eh, but there you go.
Each line is 16 bits.

Legend (most guessable). The numbers are stuff I haven't figured out (or tried to) yet:
NAME: name of the character (start of character file?)
race: race
CLAS: Class
EXP: Experience
STR/INT/DEX/CON/LUK: stats
LVLc: Current Class level
HP: hit points (maximum)
HPt: temporary hit points
MP: magic points (maximum)
MPT: temporary magic points
LVLm: maximum level (all class levels added, only really applicable to casters, and this is the level they seem to resist at, for example if you went conjurer to 14th then sorceror to 14th, this would be 28 (1c in hex) )
DISA/IDit/HIDE: thief skills
CRIT: hunter critical hit
SONG: bards songs

class # race
WARRIOR 0 human
PALADIN 1 elf
ROGUE 2 dwarf
BARD 3 hobbit
HUNTER 4 h-elf
MONK 5 h-orc
CONJURER 6 gnome
MAGICIAN 7 -----
SORCEROR 8 -----
WIZARD 9 -----

I can add that the level drain # is after max level. i do not know where status effect is.

the level drain value counts up from zero -- the subtracted value.

you can see the list of variables in the saved game file. some of that doesn't make sense though, but the order should be there once sifted through.

Turncoat
CombatMonster
Doppleganger

I forgot to add about the shop... save where appropriately so as not to damage your file / lose something etc...

i would sell everything and then buy up anything that was "inferior" / green color coded. save game. open hex editor. add "FF FF FF FF" after all the new shop items that did take. then, just below shop section should be inventory, if not search for one of the items you bought back. Increase the charges. i added "63" for 99 charges. The only item i cannot say for sure if it works on is the Dayblade.

so, that's saved / closed hex editor etc, re-load that saved game file and resell those items in inventory with increased charges. Note: you will not get to buy them with 99 charges, but you can always change that after buying more easily with cheat engine or something similar. the important thing is that they will no longer be inferior quality. double-ceck before leaving shop.

anyway, rinse-repeat the first portion of adding "FF FF FF FF" after the new names listed in shop section of saved game file. re-load the saved game, double check shop. should be all dandy.

Always double check if the item you sold is an "inferior" item before leaving shop. buy them back so that you don't lose them.

this worked on 2.07
