Audio in BT1-3

Post by thebruce » August 24th, 2017, 9:45 am

Curious question... I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I'd love some verification.

Does anyone recall if there are any sound effects (on any platform) in BT1-3 beyond the music background (Guild/Camp, Bard Songs)?

I don't believe there are any at all.

For example, Dragon Wars did have sounds for numerous in-game actions. Attacking, casting spells, maybe special encounters, etc. But am I right in that music is the only actual 'sound' in BT1-3, or am I forgetting something?

^ Yes, what ZiN said. It should also be noted that the title screen for the Mac version of BT1 had a different tune than the AG.

I think the OP already said he knew of sounds in shops, temples, etc

I just checked it out on the Kindle and the only sound I heard was just a bop sound when I took a step.
Nothing for landing an attack, missing, spells, etc.

thebruce's BT lore is deep and I'm sure he knew about the sound in the temples, but didn't explicitly say so in his original post. ZiN was probably just making sure that was an explicit addition to the list.

There were no sounds in shops on any version that I played - if you know otherwise, I would like to know where and on which platform.

There was also a footstep sound when the party was walking about, iirc.

I actually forgot about the temple sound :) So ZiN and noblesse caught me on that, lol. Good catch.

Ok, I interpreted his comment as including shops, temples, etc.

As far as I recall, the C64 version had a unique blip sound (going with the "ouch" on screen) when you ran into a dungeon wall.

Cool. Did not know that.

The IIgs version actually plays music in the temples if you stay for a bit. (I wish it didn't because I think it actually ruins the ambiance some.)
