Hi everyone,

The Bard's Tale IV is finally out! We're very excited to finally bring this game to you after many years in development. It's a lengthy, detailed, tactical RPG, and we hope you are enjoying yourself.

As with any game release, there are a few issues that some users have run into. We're trying to get as much information as possible while also addressing things as quickly as we can. In the meantime, we're setting up this FAQ - if you've run into a problem, please check below before posting a thread.

Technical Questions

Performance/Framerate Issues

We're working on getting some updates for performance out the door as soon as possible. We made initial improvements in Patch 1, and more are coming. We appreciate your patience.

If you're having performance issues on your hardware, we highly recommend you go into Options -> Graphics and click the "Auto Detect" button in there. This will scan your system and pick what the game engine feels are optimized settings for your system.

If you have a solid state hard drive (SSD), we also advise you to install it on there, as it should improve loading times and general responsiveness.

Flickering or flashing green lines on screen with NVIDIA graphics

A small number of users with NVIDIA graphics cards have reported a problem with visible green lines flickering, flashing, or "strobing" on screen while playing The Bard's Tale IV, particularly in fullscreen mode.

This appears to be caused by an incorrect color configuration in the user's display output settings. If you experience this issue, you should be able to resolve it by checking the instructions on this page: ... 0009678874

Out of Video Memory Error

Some users have reported seeing an "out of video memory" error when starting the game. The main cause of this issue we've observed is for users who have computers (usually laptops) that have both an integrated and dedicated graphics processor. For more details on how to ensure the game is using your dedicated graphics, please see this page: ... 0009733533
