Given the context, I don't see anything wrong with it; and it's kind of neat.

**Are you concerned that that might be a common animation straight from BT4?

That BT4 might have a running comedic theme, ya.

Yeah... let's hope not...

(I've no idea what was in the video - I'm not going to let that site run javascript on my machine, so I'm just guessing based on people's reactions).

In theory, I think it should be possible for the devs to use many art assets from TMT (dungeon environments, monster models, weapons, whatever) while achieving a tone more like what Fargo alluded to for BT4 ("melancholy and menace"). I really hope we get a serious RPG, with no slapstick to be found. I think touches of dry humor can work OK, as long as they don't detract from the feel of being in a troubled and dangerous world, and fit the tone and feel of the game in general. Even in grim situations people find humor, but the game world should be a dark and foreboding one.

It's odd. You see the player with a beaker, that has a miniaturized Satyr in it. The player puts it on the flame, casts some sort of spell, and the glass breaks. The little Satyr hops out on to the table where it commences to sing & dance; an original(?), but very BT:2004 style bar song. (The Player avatar appears to join in, dancing as well.)

I wouldn't mind if I saw three of them in BT4, doing this unaware, around a campfire.

To clarify, I'm not really talking about this thing in isolation but just wondering if it's an indication of BT4's theme etc.

This, on top of the flatulence humor in the novella, have me severely downgrading my expectations for the game.

Really hoping not.
This would be relegated to what I'd expect as an easter egg. Not discoverable during regular intended play of the game, only through intentional meta-style actions/exploration. Sort of like the completely out of style Club Errera easter egg in Halo: Reach.

It's not BT4... More like a throwback to BT2004; imo it should stay that way, if included at all.

I'm sorry to say that it's all fart jokes all the time for The Bard's Tale IV. Gird yourselves.

I kid.

Just to allay your concerns, I asked Lead Writer Nathan Long for a comment, and his one-line response:

"Yes, it's a drama, start to finish, with some humorous dialog along the way."

That's encouraging :)
A nice chuckle here and there is good, as long it doesn't break the mood! #timingiseverything :P

If the humor is all fart jokes, I'd just as soon skip the "humor"...

The only fart joke (if any) in BT4, should be as either a bard song or a combat spell.

*(The Bard sings, 'The Rhyme Of Intestinal Chime', or the Mage shouts (Harry Potter style), "Incontinentia Expectorum!")
