Another short update today to announce that our $1.35 million stretch goal, Enhanced Crafting, has been unlocked! Awesome work guys, keep it up!

We couldn't be more stoked, and can't wait to talk more to you about our plans for item interactions and the way crafting fits into that.

Also just a quick reminder that our inXile Loyalty Rewards promo will be ending tonight at 12:00 AM PST, so there's not much time left! If you are a returning backer from Torment or Wasteland 2 and want to pick up some extra goodies for backing The Bard's Tale IV, now is your last chance! More details are available on this page if you want the full rundown.

That's all for now, but we'll be back next week with more to share with you...

Well the "crafting" in BG2 (artifacts) and Wizardry 8 (gadgets) was allright. So if i get to tinker around with my bard's lute in a "Street Rod" kind of way, adding drake talon spikes to my warrior's, club or restringing the hunter's bow so it shoots lightning bolts, then i very much welcome it.
But no "blue herbs + bottle = mana potion, red herbs + bottle = healing potion" please!

ps. Is that MCA Chris Avellone?

Very much this! The former feels like a better fit to BT than the latter.

As others have said I really hope crafting doesn't involve carting around hundreds of herbs, twigs and scraps of metal

Ideally I'd like to see something akin to the old 'Epic Weapons' of vanilla WoW & EQ - ie several clearly special and rare items that assemble into a very special item or weapon.

Further, these components should be obtainable through specific means (quest for example), not random drops.
(Pre internet getting something special from a random mob was a nice surprise, nowadays people will just use google to find a location and farm it till they get what they want, and grinding like that never fun. But that is getting off topic a bit and just my opinion).

I'm not personally convinced that most players will play 'spoiled' in a single player offline game. Sure, some will. But there's no need to plan for them IMO. Instead, plan to make a game that rewards playing without any outside information, so players don't end up wandering off to a Wiki to try to find out how spells work, etc.
