VR is a dumb fad and the sooner BF realizes this the better.
A fad does not stick around for over 20 years.
Have you tried any good VR?

If done well, I think it could be a neat experience; though I do have extreme doubt of its applicability to RPGs. VR excels at putting the viewer in the situation; but RPGs are not about being their yourself. :|

I played with Google Cardboard for about 2 minutes. Had to quit because I was at work and starting to get a spot of vertigo because of a bad fit.

That said, it was pretty damn amazing, and it was just floating around in the rain. I think it's finally starting to come around to something that will actually be A Thing.

Then again, everyone thought that with 3D when Avatar came out, so who knows.

The first time I tried VR, was at Sigraph; they had a simulation of the New Orleans French Quarter, and the guy asked me how I had managed to get myself stuck under the city streets. [You see I have a knack for triggering bugs in software ;) ]

The other VR sim, was a Riverboat simulation of a party that was taking place live in California at the time. We walked around the interior of the boat, using a full rig for the head while standing in a control pedestal. VR has improved a lot since then. A few days ago I was inspecting my damaged roof from above it via drone & FPP camera. Those have become amazing.

I have cardboard camera for iphone plus a headset. When I go on hikes I use their app occasionally to take 3D panoramas with just the camera. Their app algorithmically analyzes the parallax as the camera pans and generates the 3D environment, which you can immediately view on the phone, in 360 degrees. It's wondrous.

The problem is that not everyone can physically 'handle' the uncanny-valley realism. Headaches, focusing issues, etc - it's not reality, so it's bound to have its problems. It's fundamentally imperfect, so it'll never be unviersally accepted, unfortunately. And I think that's why VR (in its current form) has an enormous hurdle to cross before it can really become mainstream.

Can you name me a single good VR game which isn't cheap shovelware or a port?

Probably the only thing VR will end up being useful for is porn games.

I do not have a decent VR helmet —yet, so I don't know of any recent/decent VR games. The ones I mentioned before were on dedicated hardware consoles; like old-style arcade games.

My guess, is that a VR [valve] Portal sequel might use the technology well, and to its fullest; I don't think it's impossible, but I've heard nothing about such a project.

I can't, but I know Fargo's gone on about a couple. Railshooters and horror games seem to lend themselves to the platform. And while it's a port, I've heard good things about the Resident Evil 7 VR version.
