These ******* honey badgers...

Post by Yosharian » September 20th, 2014, 9:10 am

Are you serious? 225 hp badgers that deal 20-50 damage a hit? And the mine is full of them? And this is to get a level 6 NPC?

Fuck you Wasteland 2. Fuck you. :x

On a more serious note, does anyone have any tips for beating these shits? I do around 5-10 damage a hit no matter what weapon I use currently. Obviously 'GO AND LEVEL UP/GET BETTER WEAPONS' is obvious, but I want to get Takayuki as early as possible....

Use Heavy Weapons and Energy Weapons, I am not that far but HB hat pretty though armor. Else, yeah, you have to level and get better equip - I am getting knocked around by some enemies pretty bad myself, and I love it.

Edit: Honeybadgers ARE badass already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... TPn1-SJqVM

Takayuki is level 14 now. I think you're not meant to roll around to the mine until later.

For me (I did it at level 9) it was kiting and explosives. The one weakness of the badgers is that they don't move so fast. I had a sniper lure them back to choke points, where they would clump together and then be easy pickings for the team loaded with grenades.

I think you were also asking abt Tak's new skills earlier. They are:

Bladed weapons: 6
Demolitions: 5
Mechanical repair: 3

Ok so situation solved, I managed to exploit my way past the badgers haha!

Step 1) engage the first 3 badgers in battle

Step 2) RUN LIKE HELL past them, past the other two groups of badgers, but don't let the 3 aggroed badgers fall too far behind because they get stuck pathing around the bend otherwise

Step 3) Continue running like hell until you reach the area where the miners are, then turn and wait for the 3 badgers, when they arrive blast the shit out of them with explosives. I used 3 pipe bombs and a mauler (stinger missile type thing).

This exploit works because the other groups of badgers won't aggro (attack you) while the first group is still attacking you. They just stand there and you can run past them.

I now have Takayuki with me and will come back to annihilate the rest of the badgers when I'm stronger.

Edit: oh shit I just realised Takayuki is level 14....

Did it at lvl 6 with half team out of ammo. Mostly 1 LAW rocket , 2 grenades and lots of kiting and animal whispering :D

Lure as many as possible into a small area and use explosives/grenades.
Shooting them is almost a waste of ammo and in melee they're twice (or more) as tough as you are.

Ah shiiiiit, totally forgot animal whispering. :o

They killed my cow and my chicken though.

Got about half a dozen 'nades, but didn't use them yet... should really start doing so. Do they need any skill to be thrown properly?

From beta, grenades are entirely independent of any stat or skill. I don't *think* that's changed on release.

Honey Badger don't care, Honey Badger don't give a shit. Honey Badgers have no regard for any animals, including Rangers.

Easy way (though takes a VERY long time) just use 1 char with blunt weapons. smack one twice with crowbar then move away 5 spaces. they don't have enough AP to move that far and still attack. guess you could do it earlier with a different melee weapon (or fists) but it would take even longer. just be sure to have enough AP/speed to move 5 spaces after attacking with whatever you're using. no damage to you, no expenses with ammo or explosives; only cost being time.

Actually the Honey Badgers were toned down from one of the versions, just beefed up damage and health. No infinite sprint or huge amount of attacks.

Use anti armor weapons on these guys, and don't attempt until you're well leveled.

TBH though the mine didn't have ANY explosives... you know the stuff you use to free the miners...

I'd LOVE it if you could have found 10 TNT from the bomb they had, took it, then the bat goo, and escorted the people out.

Also we gotta loot landmines of their TNT/Explosives!

It's so ironic. I managed to take out the last 5 ones at level 8-ish using two grenades and an assload of sniper bullets, because only my sniper had ammo at that point. But it would have been so much easier if I had had just one more grenade.

Guess what I got from the foreman as a reward? 3 grenades.

WELL that would have been useful 5 minutes earlier, you stingy prick! I almost died in there!

I did die in there. So many times I lost count.

Honey Badgers are awesome I hope they don't nerf them.

Night Terror has very few uses, one of them is fighting honey badgers. He usually starts out in the rear of the fight, shoot the badgers and retreat, they will beat the piss of out Night Terror for the most part. They will come after you if you are close enough though, keep your distance and let him tank for you.

Indeed. In my day, you were supposed to shit your chainmail when you saw more than one beholder, and you definitely were supposed to shit your power armor when you saw more than one deathclaw. I'm looking at you, FO3.

The difference between the isometric turn-based RPG, and a full 3d environment without turns (not including VATs which only the PC can use). I had a lot of Fun with it but the damage on my weapons scales too much and my levels give me.more than they should. Imagine FO3 on Hard with a character that can't level past 1 and has to rely on finding the skill point books and bobble heads. Totally doable, but I'll bet you show Old Olney a bit more respect.

Oh, and BTW: Shield of Balduran, Cloak of Mirroring, Spell Deflection/Turning, and Imp Invis summons. I agree that the first two are cheap, but the first time you unexpectedly see them working? Nothing like it. Fear my gnome fighter, rah!

Dunno about that. FO:NV managed to make the deathclaws more formidable.

Heh. I'm trying to imagine an FO3 that doesn't suck, but even my wild imagination has it's limits.

In my experience two M16 or AK47 users will decimate Honey Badgers just as easily as almost everything else in Arizona.

The trick is to boost your party members' weapon skills as high as possible as early as possible (aim for at least 7 or 8 points in ARs by the time you leave Arizona) and ensure your AR users have a CI of 15 minimum, but the closer to 20 the better.

With the right party, on SJ you can still manage to kill the largest pack of Honey Badgers in there before they've even come close enough to land a single hit.
