What does one tide matter?

I clicked on dialogs and colorful things appear on the screen, showing which tide has changed. Castoffs and Sorrow talked about tides all the time. But did it matter at all in the end? Why did tides have such low impact on the world and NPC interactions?

Unclear if it has a greater impact beyond the final dialogue sequence which refers to actions being in or out of character.

It is "supposed" to affect how people interact with you. That is what the tips say during loading screens at least. It would of been very difficult to actually write unique dialogue for every or even a portion of the NPCs every time your tide affinity changed. That being said it is supposed to happen. However, with the myriad of cuts made to this game you can guess why the impact seems so small.

And that is correct, just dont assume completely new discussions but rather a new conversation option and some different answers to your own questions.

Would of been cool though if they colored those new tide based dialogue options. That would give you visual feedback showing how your choices affected the world. It would be a little immersion breaking, but something you could hopefully toggle off if you didn't like it. Still, I think this would of made people feel like their choices actually made a difference.

The way it is now you'd have to do an entire separate playthrough to ever really know and most people 90% never even finish the first playthrough nowadays.

that is really a great idea. Sea also wrote on steam that we even have new dialogue options, but it is very hard to figure out what those options are.

Thanks! I also don't think it wouldn't hurt if they had an entire screen devoted to the tide instead of a small icon. A screen that shows the fluxuation of the tide energy and which one is currently dominate. This way you can see the strength of all the tides and get an idea of what is secondary and tertiary.

I've seen a lot of speculation on what the Tides influence. Generally speaking, we tried to keep system information out of your face, and just change the narrative around you. Players get Tidal branches often, but we don't, as this thread has suggested, color the text Blue. Generally speaking, NPCs can recognize what you've done, and some characters will try to manipulate you based on your dominant Tides.

That's interesting. Some NPCs have been pseudo-direct about the tides by responding to one of my tidal actions as being uncharacteristic, but I haven't noticed the manipulation yet. If that's true you did a very good job with it; that or I haven't gotten to it yet.
