But you said earlier the signature files have a good chance to store the user and group ID of each file. I think it would justify mismatching hashsums.
What are the numeric UID and GID you used when working on these archives? I can set a new user using your values and see if I get matching hashsums.

PS: sig-files generated with 'rdiffdir sig gog_wasteland_2_whatever/game gog_wasteland_2_whatever.sig'

My UID is 1000 and my GID is 100.

I don't think we are going to figure out why the old patch is failing for you; we've tried everything I can think of. The newest one works and that's the important thing.

I downloaded all of my copies right after GOG posted them. Maybe GOG changed the archives without updating the version numbers. Or perhaps one of us just got a bad download that wasn't a game breaker. So until we get more data points, I'm fine with providing both patches. (I'll start keeping track of the md5sums of my GOG downloads in the future.)

Next week: I'll create a 1.5.0.9 to 1.7.0.11 patch. It would be nice if it worked on your end, but it would help rule out the 1.5.0.9 signature being the culprit.

P.S. I updated the main posts with your links. Thanks again for hosting!

Right. I can’t think of anything else to try beside voodoo incantations, and I’m not really good at this.
The newest patch works as intended, and for the next ones you should have at least a couple test reports as soon as you release them. This should make error tracking much easier.
I downloaded all of my copies right after GOG posted them. Maybe GOG changed the archives without updating the version numbers.
A plausible explanation, as I can confirm that they do not publish different versions for patches before and after an eventual hotfix. Which does mean they either wait for the hotfix before packaging, or they repackage the game with the hotfix without bumping the version number.
Or perhaps one of us just got a bad download that wasn't a game breaker.
Yep, that’s not to exclude. And seeing as we can’t download these "old" versions anymore, we’ll probably never know.
So until we get more data points, I'm fine with providing both patches. (I'll start keeping track of the md5sums of my GOG downloads in the future.)
Best solution in my opinion. If we get some feedback we should find out if one of the patches is badly built, and if we get none… bah, it would mean we probably shouldn’t care ;)
Next week: I'll create a 1.5.0.9 to 1.7.0.11 patch. It would be nice if it worked on your end, but it would help rule out the 1.5.0.9 signature being the culprit.
Okay, I’ll do one on my side, and I’ll test both on my 1.5.0.9 version. If you do the same test, we should be able to see if our respective so-called 1.5.0.9 versions are truly the same, or if they differ in some mysterious way.
-----
Done, here is the patch (72M):
http://www.dotslashplay.it/ressources/w ... .7.0.11.7z
And here you can find its md5sum:
http://www.dotslashplay.it/ressources/w ... .7z.md5sum
-----
While I was working on this patch, I added md5sum for all the other files I’m hosting.
Just add the ".md5sum" suffix to any link to a .7z archive to get the associated md5sum.
P.S. I updated the main posts with your links. Thanks again for hosting!
A pleasure ;)
Such fine work deserved to be mirrored, and seeing how I missed WL2 Kickstarter it’s my own little contribution to the effort.

I switched a few options in my web server, and you can now directly browse my patches directory:
http://www.dotslashplay.it/ressources/wasteland-2/
It should be easier to find a specific patch/md5sum that way.

In the "wasteland-2" directory tonurics’ patches can be found, and in the "alt" subdirectory are my alternative builds.

Here's the patch:
1.5.0.9 -> 1.7.0.11
md5sum: 71f7dbd0e17e7ca36cbdc086d10640fb

I don't have any of the old downloads to use your patch on, otherwise we could have just verified the md5sums of the archives. ;)

For kicks: I downloaded a new copy of 1.7.0.11 from GOG, created a new signature and saw the md5sum match my old one exactly. So whatever has caused the differences between our signatures/deltas, it must be something static.

Yeah, right, that’s why we’re running those tests in the first place… Maybe I should get a bit more sleep.

-----

Tried the patch, and I get the infamous "AssertionError: snapshot".
Looks like there’s really something different about our respective 1.5.0.9 builds, but unless someone else kept it and can provide us with a checksum of the archive, we’re kind of stuck to find out which one is the "right" one.

Downloaded and "checksummed" the latest GOG Linux build (md5):
cbad961386267cbf5b7a8f23843dd2b8 gog_wasteland_2_1.9.0.13.tar.gz

If this time we’re sure to have the same file, it should make the testing easier.

Our MD5sums match; we should be good. ;)

I also have Patch 6 uploaded to FileFactory for the Windows and Linux Steam builds. I just haven't had a chance to update the main post yet.

I just noticed both of us missed the GOG release 1.8.0.12 (official release 5.1), so I think I’m going to build two patches to upgrade to 1.9.0.13 (official 6): 1.7.0.11 (official 5) -> 1.9.0.13 and 1.8.0.12 -> 1.9.0.13

It might take a couple hours or a couple days before I push them online, depending on the disponibility of coffee where I am.
If you can build both patches on your end, I’ll be able to test them during the week-end (don’t want to rush you, take more time if you’re already busy).

Done, you can find the patches and their md5 checksums here:

Uploaded the Linux GOG.com patch to FileFactory. ;) Hmm, I'm pretty sure 1.7.0.11 was our 5.1; I don't know what 1.8.0.12 is!

Been extra busy working on Torment related stuff. But maybe I'll get a chance to update my post over the weekend.

Okay, I’ll give it a try soon.

I’ll do another check, you might be right. Anyway both versions are very close, I’ll run a recursive diff but I think there is at most a couple small files modified between the two versions.

Hey, Torment is the priority, I’m so excited about this game I don’t want to distract you from it!
Well, actually I’ll keep distracting you because I like this patch project, but keep some time to breathe…

I tried the patch on both 1.7.0.11 and 1.8.0.12, the game starts and I can load a savegame in both cases.

A diff between the two (1.7 patched and 1.8 patched) gives (seems pretty minor to me, but not expected) :

Code: Select all

 Only in Wasteland 2-1.8/game/WL2_Data/Localization: Defines_sp.txt
 Only in Wasteland 2-1.8/game/WL2_Data/Localization: Main_sp.txt
Couldn't compare with vanilla 1.9.0.13 yet because that 10G beast isn't fully downloaded yet, but I'll compare once it's done - hopefully somewhen in the late afternoon.

Also one wish : it would be nice to include a README file in the .7z (with instructions on how to apply it), not just the .delta. Sure instructions are in the forum thread, but it would still be nice to have them with the patch itself.

I agree with vv221 : Torment is priority ! Make that game awesome ! Go back to work ! (hrm, it's sunday, ok, rest and have fun today) ;)

Downloaded the big tarball. Compared with it and... everything is different ! After looking for a while, I finally got what I did wrong. The initial post says "rdiffdir patch [path to the WL2_Data folder of your Wasteland 2 installation] [path to the *.delta you extracted]" so I did something like :

Code: Select all

(kilobug@drizzt) ~/gog/w2patch $ rdiffdir patch ~/gog/Wasteland\ 2-1.7/game/WL2_Data patch_1.7.0.11_1.9.0.13.delta
While in fact what works is :

Code: Select all

(kilobug@drizzt) ~/gog/w2patch $ rdiffdir patch ~/gog/Wasteland\ 2-1.7/game/ patch_1.7.0.11_1.9.0.13.delta
So the WL2_Data shouldn't be included, but it doesn't print any error message when it's included, it just doesn't patch properly...

Now, there is no difference between 1.7 patched, 1.8 patched and vanilla 1.9 (apart in the "start.sh" script, but doesn't matter), and they all work fine :)

You’re right, I’m going to do this as soon as I’ve a bit of free time and energy.

EDIT: Well, your last post shows us a README file is in fact needed here.

-----

Your diff between GOG 1.7 and 1.8 confirms what I’ve been thinking: 1.7 is official 5 and 1.8 official 5.1, the latter being a hotfix for the Spanish translation. I think it is coherent with the version given in the start.sh script.

Post updated, Mac patches are live. Mega keeps dying when I try to upload stuff, so FileFactory only for now.

I’ll be physically back near my server tonight, I should have time to test the GOG Linux patch and upload copies of all the last patches to my server.
Feedback coming soon ;)

I’m downloading your last GOG.com Linux patch, and it should be online on my mirror in an hour (and tested of course).
But I can’t find your last Steam patches, the following link from your opening post gives me an empty FileFactory directory:
http://www.filefactory.com/folder/e8e9c9b2ad71400a

-----

Done, the patch can be downloaded from there:
http://www.dotslashplay.it/ressources/wasteland-2/

A quick test (recursive diff) showed no difference at all between a 1.7.0.11 patched to 1.9.0.13 and a 1.9.0.13 freshly extracted. I’m removing my alternative build of this patch, seeing than mine and yours both works in exactly the same way.

filefactory links updated; I reorganized the files into subfolders over there; but it looks like it hides them when sharing the root folder.

Glad to hear it! I think our initial problems were from just having mismatched gog_wasteland_2_1.5.0.9 downloads.
