A few issues regarding the end of the game

Post by NovaRain » January 1st, 2015, 9:21 pm

Just finished the game again, here are some issues I noticed during my playthrough:
1. Is it intended that the mutants won't appear if you have already got as many allies as you can in AZ? I got Matt (Ag), Casey&Kekkabah&Melissa (RNC), Danforth&Campbell&Reina (Prison), Sadler&Bridewell (DBM), Hopi&Magee (Damonta), and Jill&Bart (Damonta). But no Jan and other mutants despite I keep Darwin secret. In my previous playthrough I killed RSMs and got the mutants in the final battle.

EDIT: And after I enter the Citadel, Reina keeps following me. Shouldn't it stay with Danforth?

2. About the endings, I returned Rick to custody and shared the Damonta treasure with Red, but didn't get the "Rick released and dishonorably discharged from the Rangers, moved in with Red and opened a bar near the Prison". I only got "joined Red at the scrapyard, enjoys operating heavy equipment and drinking too much" ending. Do I miss some requirements or some checks don't get registered correctly?

3. There's an infinite XP exploit in Hollywood: I took the peace treaty questline, killed all hostile priests (including the gate guards and radio tower guards) and freed the penitents, then go watching the peace treaty signed. I told Maggie and got XP for finishing her "free penitents" quest. She thanked me, ran to the main gate and disappeared. But if I save/load the game or leave the Griffith Park map then return, she will reappear at the inner gate. I can tell her and get XP again. As long as I keep saving/loading or running back and forth, I can tell her "penitents are freed" infinite times. BTW, in previous playthroughs, during taking back the bastion quest the main gate is fully opened. Now it works like before the quest (only one side opened, plays cutscene), is it related to the "Griffith Park: Fixed inner gate to work correctly" in the patch 5 notes?

4. About Pete & Diva in Angel Oracle, I cured Diva but it ran away and disappeared. Pete just keeps standing near the gate with guards. Strange thing is, when I entered Griffith Park from Los Feliz for the first time, Diva suddenly appeared and followed me. I dismissed it, and it reappeared in Los Feliz near the trader. I took it back to Angel Oracle, but Pete didn't have any reaction. After I left Angel Oracle then back again, Diva disappeared again and nowhere to be found.

Seems possible. I got everyone you have listed there except the DBM (I disarmed the nuke in Silo 7), so I had the mutants. There might be a max "party" size issue here.

Thanks for the report!

On issue 1, I believe this is the case.

On issue 2, I've reported that, thank you! It would help a lot to have a save file. :)

On issue 3, this was fixed in December and should be in a future update.

On issue 4, same as above, save file would be great + instructions to reproduce.

BTW, there's one thing I forgot to report: In my playthrough, I used the Smart Ass check to get the microscope from Dr. Edwinson, the one in the clinic (you can just grab it without talking to Edwinson) disappeared. But during the Pete/Diva quest, the microscope reappears in the clinic, so I can get the cure immediately without returning to Rodia, or have two microscope quest items in my inventory if I go back to Rodia first, get back the microscope from Dr. Horchata, then grab the "new" one in the clinic.

EDIT: here's how I solve the Pete/Diva quest: I go to the west outer field, kill all honey badgers, trigger the quest cut-scene while returning to the main gate, stop Diva's execution, go asking Dr. Edwinson about the cure, grab the "new" microscope just in the clinic and give it to Edwinson, get the cure and use it on Diva. The quest gets completed, and Diva runs away after the chained fence opens. When I enter Los Feliz for the first time (from Hollywood east gate), Diva appears, runs toward me and follows my team as normal animal companions (but without any bonus). I can dismiss it on the spot, it'll stay there if I leave Los Feliz then return. But if I take it back to Angel Oracle then dismiss it, it disappears when I return.

When I entered Los Feliz Ralphy lost his Devil Eyes, as Aberforth left and couldn't be Animal Whispered again. Because of Diva, as it turned out when I googled. Apparently the developer responsible for that quest thinks their precious quest is more important than my animal followers? I disagree.

Since I save often and reload, I could reload and safely dismiss Aberforth before getting the message "the animal is drawn to you", and then dismiss Diva in Los Feliz, where she stays. And then Animal Whisper Aberforth again, since being dismissed properly doesn't make an animal an invalid target for Animal Whisperer. But in order to bring Diva to Angel Oracle I would have to dismiss Aberforth, my cow, or my possum, all of which would disappear if I ever left a map where I dismissed them. So even if Pete back in Angel Oracle had any dialogue (which he does not), it would still be an asshole quest!

As it is now, I'll just leave Diva in Los Feliz. Did the developer responsible for that quest not bother checking to make sure that it worked before going off on a mind-altering substances break? I haven't done anything strange, so there shouldn't be any unexpected flags set or missing in my game that affects this quest. Though it was pretty strange how the quest was 'finished' as soon as I gave the cure to Diva. I thought the doctor needed that microscope to check to make sure that she was actually cured? That suddenly didn't seem to be important. Or maybe it was just assumed that the doctor was there and did that, and that particular detail didn't need a cut scene? Or was the whole thing a ruse to get that microscope back?

Or is this a joke quest, and I'm supposed to escort Diva the 'Divine One' to the Bastion of Faith, to be worshiped as their new god/dog? Do I need to bring the Puppy as well?
