PS4 strange disc behaviour

Post by mblaster » January 1st, 2017, 10:41 pm

Hello,

I recently purchased Wasteland 2 for the PS4 and I'm experiencing strange behaviour. From the moment I put the disc in to when I press eject, the disc whirls up to full speed, there's a click clack sound, and then the disc whirls down and stops. Then it repeats. The whole process takes about five seconds and it continues to do this as long as the disc is inserted. I started the install process despite this but stopped it after about 10 minutes since it appeared to stall and I don't want to cause damage to my drive, the icon had stopped spinning while the drive was continuously doing this whirling of the disc, clicking loudly and then coming to a stop.

Is this normal behaviour for the Wasteland 2 PS4 disc? None of my other games are this noisy. Should I try to install the game again?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Wow. I have no idea on that one. I can't imagine why the disc would make that noise; I'd almost suspect a manufacturing error in the physical disc itself than anything else.

Yea I think I'm going to exchange it. A shame since I ordered it through the mail, just more waiting.

I have nine PS4 games now and none of them behave like this. The others act similarly in that they spin the disc up, it stays spinning, you can hear it accessing data during load sequences, but never does it spins down and stop, unless there's no user activity for an extended period. I know Skyrim does that because I play it so much.

Looking forward to more work from this company, one of the gems of the computer gaming world!

Sorry you have to wait for a replacement, but I haven't heard anyone with a problem like this before, which is why I assumed it was a problem with the disc itself. Good luck!

So here's a strange twist. I submitted my issue and the rep at play-asia.com replies asking for video proof before they'll issue an RMA.

Here's what I said and their reply:
I received my games but I'm having a problem with Wasteland 2. When I put
the disc in the drive it sounds like the PS4 struggles to read the disc and
the disc will stop spinning and then start again every 5 seconds. When I
try installing the game the PS4 becomes unresponsive after about 20 minutes
and I have to hard reset (pull power cable) to get the controller working
again. I tried installing twice and both times was unsuccessful. I think
the disc might have a manufacturing defect.

I'm wondering if I can exchange my Wasteland 2 disc for another Wasteland 2
disc?
Thank you for putting this up to our attention and we are sorry to hear
about this. In this case, may we request to provide us a video of the issue
that you encounter so we can check it with our respect team? Hope to hear
from you soon.

Just remember, we're always an email away if you need help.
So I've made the video and it's 28mb. I'm not sure if it's too big for email and I don't have any ideas on where to host it, but I'm also offended so maybe I should just post it on liveleak with a title like play-asia.com customer service expectations... Any advice on how to proceed?

Google drive can easily support uploading and sharing a 28mb file.

No google for me. I've uploaded it to a free hosting service see what happens.
