you can still download any DRM-free games you own via a browser on their website (like GOG/HB).
So I can go to GOG, not log in and get a DRM-free game?

By your definition (in particular, the "log-in" bit) GOG also uses DRM, which is true, even though your second statement suggests it does not.

I would agree. GOG sold you the game and you have access to download it, only through them, by proving you are you via a login. You certainly can't buy something from GOG then go elsewhere to obtain it. That is a type of rights management and it is certainly digital in format.

For DRM-free games this is the only question: are you or are you not okay with using a proprietary access method (e.g. Steam client) versus a standard access method (i.e. a web browser) to the property?

I mostly don't use Steam because their EULA frustrates me. Before the Concepcion v. AT&T Mobility decision and the inclusion of relevant language in damn near every EULA of US origin thereafter, I was a major Steam proponent.

That's not why I'm talking right now. The reason seemed insufficient by itself. Rather, I'm here to say oscar mike golf tango yankee I love this new patch.
Seriously. I beat Wasteland the first time around just yesterday in v2.0.1.6, and it was frighteningly unstable in that playthrough. Every time I quit the game, my whole Linux install would crash, either wiping out the X or actually causing freezes and kernel panics.
Since I installed, this hasn't happened once! I no longer dread starting the game!
