Demolitions in the mine

Post by jpayne1138 » November 19th, 2013, 9:51 am

I'm in the mine shaft, and some rocks and debris fell behind me, making it impossible for me to leave. I have a character with plastic explosives and the Demolitions skill. How in the hell do I use them to clear the debris? I've tried using the skill and using the item, and the only result I get is Nothing Happens. What am I doing wrong?

You'll need something explosive, such as TNT, Plastic Explosives, or a Grenade.

Use, item, direction of the obstruction. Same as blowing up a door.

I have plastic explosives. I use the item in the direction of the obstacle. Nothing happens.

Try a pick axe instead. Or just STR.

I think only TNT works for the deadfall.

Okay, so I gave my three strongest characters a pickaxe, a sledge hammer, and a shovel. Then I set up a macro that had each try to use their strength on the rubble and then use their implement of destruction. I ran the macro about thirty times and got no result besides Nothing Happens. (Oh, and sometimes Ace refusing to obey. That jackass.)

I have no TNT. I have plastic explosives, but I get no result. Am I trapped forever in this mine shaft?

Crap, I just read this on someone's walkthrough:

"You can clear the collapsed tunnel with one TNT if you really must, but a failed Demolitions check will hurt you and seal the tunnel permanently."

http://www.resonant.org/games/wasteland ... .html#mine

I think I failed a Demolitions check right when I first entered the mine shaft. So apparently I can't get out this way. Is there any other way out? Or am I just totally screwed and I have to start the game over?

Oh, and according to this walkthrough, mining for silver apparently increases the rate of random encounters. And I mined on a macro. So now I have random encounters every two steps or so. Dammit.

Hmmm, I don't think I've ever actually blasted/dug my way back through the cave-in.

(SPOILER ALERT)

Just head in a roughly north-eastern direction (north first, then east) until you reach the eastern edge of the map, then travel back south to the mine entrance. Beware of random Shadowclaws :D!

Yeah, I don't know if we're going to make it, due to the extremely frequent random encounters. But at least it's theoretically possible. I'll give it a try.

Exciting, no? Many hated the randoms, but honestly, the feeling you get when you MAKE IT, savor that rush.

There's two demolitions checks. The first one is to find/disable the trap, the second one only happens when you use TNT. And as mentioned, you can go around the deadfall.

I remember first playing the Mine Shaft I thought that collapsing passage was because of a bomb, so I kept trying to use bomb disarm to no avail

I made it out! Most of the party was unconscious, and no one had more than 1 CON, but we made it. :)

Why does this sound so very very familiar?

Some of the creatures in the Mine Shaft are just brutal for a low level party, especially how they all seem to have multiple attacks per round, I don't go in there until I get my whole party bulletproof shirts.

Hell I don't go there period. Not enough reward for the risk.

Luckily, as long as you don't stumble into the ShadowClaw, you should be able to survive, even if you're leaving a trail of blood behind you.

If you meet the ShadowClaw... well... the Ranger Center's to the southeast.

Rested up and went back in to get the stuff I didn't get the first time in. Random encounters were even worse this time. Fought a shadowclaw several times, and saw some new tough monsters, including the shell cougar, skinks, and geckos. Man, this mine is rough!
