Or find new green mods to handle the Torment forums as currently there are none; those areas are only handled by the sitewide red mods. That's a decision above my paygrade.

Seems like you're fighting a hopeless battle at the moment. 3 of those thread-spammers duking it out between themselves in the Torment general forum.. :|

Zombra, other reds, greens and blues:
Is it enough for you to have a report for one topic of every spambot, or does it help to report each and every topic? (I usually put "spambot" in the commentary field to point out that every topic by the same poster is spam)
My spam reporting duty gets a bit hard on the fingers when they’ve been busy during the night ;)

You just need to report one post; the team will quickly figure out what's going on.

To give you an an idea of the waves of spambots we've been seeing: the day before yesterday, I setup a DNSBL check on the registration page. On the first day it blocked over 120 registration attempts by 30 IP Addresses. Granted most of them would have probably been blocked by the two Captchas that show up [one of which is custom] or the custom anti-URL stuff that happens on first time posters.

Unfortunately, even with all of those anti-spam measures in place, these three still managed to get through... I'm fairly convinced that humans are registering the accounts (and confirming the emails) and passing it off to a bot for the actual spam posts.

Make them answer when Wasteland 1 was out. Works for my forum although I'm asking about Fallout 1 instead :D.

New users cant post weblinks. Is it also possible that new users need to wait a little bit longer to post again than normal users?

2 minutes waiting time between posts equals 30 posts per hour maximum. 3 min waiting time equals 20 posts per hour max. 4 min equals 15 posts. At the moment spam accounts can send 1 post per minute. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes for new users would reduce the work of the mods, and the forum wouldnt get spammed so much with spam if a spammer gets through all security checks.

I dont think the waiting time would be a big problem for new users. It can slow down conversations a little bit. But in most cases people wont even know theres such restriction. When users are finally allowed to post weblinks, also this special time restriction could end.

We are already restricting who can include links in their posts. (That's helped a lot.)

As for the time limit, it's an interesting idea. But from a moderator standpoint: 15 spam post requires the same amount of work as 60. They're just going to ban the user and use the "delete all posts" functions. Spambots don't care about the time limit; so it will only annoy real users who run into the limits.

thx for the clarification.. i was already wondering if there is a delete all button.. still.. its a difference for normal users .. they dont see so much spam.. if it happens..

..on the other hand i checked the last spammer and my suggestion wouldnt have made a big difference.. the spammer needed 17 min to make 9 posts.. with my suggestion he would have needed 18 or 27 minutes. ... i dont know if it would really help much, or harm more, but it seems it would only make a slight difference if the time between postings is at least 3 min..
