i liked the update. i really hope BF will soon stop to bore me with the neverending story of how great everything is, so thx for adressing that concern. the destructability of environmental objects is another thing i am very glad to read about since, in my opinion, its one of the things that seriously brings memorability and class to a modern game world. (maybe i just love Bad Company 2 too much, lol)
i was pretty underwhelmed by the pictures, they feel a tad boring to me. unlike the ones in the update before! more fire, more fire!
concerning the UI, i think inxile should stop tweaking and let it rest for a while, creating a little distance to it and then, if necessary do a last round of tweaks.
another thing that turns me down a bit are the rough edges of the character models. it just doesnt look convincing, they look somewhat disconnected from the rest of the environment, mostly from the ground. its the old floating issue. maybe it is possible to add a 1-2 pixel diffuser scrim to the outer edges to make them seem softer.
concerning delays, i have no problem with inxile taking the time they need to build the game they want to release, the more important question is, will the funds carry them through this process? how much money has been spent already? is there enough left to finish the game at all or will ambition prevent us from truely getting a finished game? actually this is what concerns me most, at some point the cash is gone.
i dont expect too much interest for the game beyond those who already backed it. when reading articles on eurogamer there are hardly much comments, which always tells you something about general interest in a game. our view (the supporters) may be pretty biased when it comes to how many copies wasteland 2 will finally sell. of course getting good reviews will help but i dont expect wasteland 2 to be too popular. so i hope that inxile didnt take any money from torment hoping for wasteland 2 to fill the pockets.
i expect w2 to be released Q4 this year along with pillars of eternity which possibly attracts more interest since it just looks better so far (concerning the published footage yet). and dont forget the new dragon age and witcher 3, which will be released this year too.
so overall i remain sceptical. the keyword system, the boring action point combat and the graphics being the major problem areas, not the UI that already got too much attention so far. i dont want to be too negative, but wasteland 2 still looks a bit boring to be honest, thats its biggest problem i think. maybe its because of the setting, but thats just how it is when i take a step back and look at it from the more general gamer perspective. the hardcore fans will love it anyway. maybe the announced particle effects will help a bit here...
anyway i trust inxile to deliver a great game and its still time to do the right things. looking forward to see the upcoming beta in action!
