I don't see how it's "blowing money". :? This decision is going to make them money.

The only thing I'm concerned about is developer time and energy being spent on the porting process, but even that doesn't bother me, because as part of this process they're upgrading the W2 engine. Even considering that they might be able to release Torment sooner or something if they dropped this release, I'm not sure I would even want them to.

At the end the more people are exposed to these type of games, the better. Can't just sit around hoping your balding, Viagra addicted fanbase will always show up for those Kickstarters.

Well, you reread it then :) ->"The console interface is quite different when you consider the input device and proximity to the screen whereas the Mac and Linux are pretty much identical to that of the 'PC'. We will consider a tablet version due to the similarity of the screen and interface but even on that we need to do a bit more research." <- Which means tablet version on a later date MAYBE, and no to consoles. And yes of course i get why they are doing new consoles , its easiest from technical standpoint as they are basically PC`s.[/quote]
The article was written in march 2012. They had only just started and then they built a better understanding of how Unity worked, and then released to early access and got a bunch of money and figured it was going to be a success for them, and they wanted to capitalise on it so that they can continue to make money so that they can continue making games, without the influence of publishers, assuming they can't get what they need from Kickstarter.
First, MS and Sony are our overlords when it comes to gaming and publishers, i cant fathom why you think otherwise.Only bit they dont fully own is PC, but on consoles that DUOPOLY reigns supreme, and its NOT GOOD for ANY gamer.Every multiplatform publisher/developer has to constantly negotiate with them, and give them cuts ,they OWN multiplayer only pc excluded."I dont even" how you dont see that. There are probably hundreds of cases why MS and Sony are bad for the industry, and Brian fargo would agree. But nvrmd. As for PC.
You say Steam, yea, Origin, yea.BUT, we have other ! And i say pc is only chance, because on PC there is even remote possibility of getting stuff from multiple sources, at different prices, with different DRM.On consoles, there is no choice, and there never will be.You buy a consoles, you pay monthly fees to be able to play a game which was overpriced from the beginning and had to follow MS/SONY guildelines ,and they HAVE to pay them a cut.Ofcourse STEAM is big and bad to a degree. But There are alternatives, and its the only platform there CAN BE alternatives.I hope you understand what i mean now.Not to say, that i can still buy certain games in a store and just play them.
Oh I understand... And I am officially OUT of this conversation.
Well, i said multiple times that "we will see" , but talk is cheap and only real actions matter. So , we will see.
But still, as a fan , as a old school PC gamer, i rather would see expansion pack for W2 announced, or W3 kickstarter than blowing money on some god awful consoles.
What so like new content, stuff which requires creative people, as well as developers. The sort of thing you need to spend serious resources on. Versus taking an existing game with all the content etc, and just porting it to another platform. A task made easier by the system they developed in.
They may not be EA/Activision/Sony/MS/ or any of the other gamign monoliths out there. But they still need to make money so that they can make new games. You are begrudging them that?
That shouldnt be a hard thing to understand. And really, there were many developers, which in time produced worse and worse games, Dragon Age 2 and mass effect 3 being the biggest disappointments in recent years (to a guy before, honest to god i cant fathom how you can say ME3 was harder and more complex than kotor or ME1, i finished it on hard, quickly and without spending XP, game was short , had QTE`s and was sometimes massively stupid).
Welcome to capitalism. Publishers are held to account by their shareholders. They HAVE to make money else they will fail. The best way to make money is to target the Mass Market with what they believe the Mass Market wants. It is the same in every industry.
Ending rant.I have really high expectations for torment, planescape is my second favorite game of all time (first being F2)and i hope that with this big KS, teething problems out of the way (W2 was somewhat a company starter) it will be excellent, and wont be made for consoles :P.
Not really a company starter, more it allowed them to be free of Publisher influence. You know those guys you keep ranting about.

Anyway.. as I said, I am done.

Don't get discouraged, your weapon of choice was just ineffective. Platform warriors have custom build helmets with 100% logic immunity.

I'd recommend a flamethrower.

I am kind of bummed about this.
Commercially it would be smart to delay the PC update and release GOTY edition for all platforms at the same time. Otherwise PC update my eat away at console sales. If that is true - that means we have to wait till "Late Summer" before we get balance + perks.

[ Begin Rant  ]
This only proves consoles are the bane of gaming. Consoles promote segregation + gameism + and overall hatred. We need a landmark case like PC vrs Board of Platforms. Degsegrating games from specific platforms and force change to make games available everywhere. To make consoles run all code - instead of forcing developers to modify code just for consoles!

[ :ugeek: End Rant :ugeek: ]

Just to answer a few questions that have come up in this thread:
  1. We have been hard at work making the most of Unity 5 and that goes beyond just a few new lighting and visual effects. Unity 5 has allowed us to significantly rework environment art and textures, things like foliage, etc. and put in higher resolution assets. The areas we've already overhauled are like night and day compared to the "old" versions.
  2. The console version won't be a rush job. We're making significant changes to the UI and controls to make sure the game plays as well as it can, taking advantage of those things that consoles do well while finding new solutions for the bits and pieces that don't map to gamepads perfectly. We are not treating that version of the game as an afterthought.
  3. We are not going to streamline the wasteland out of Wasteland 2 - it's still going to be the same core game no matter what platform you play. All platforms will benefit from the updates we're doing.

and what about the release-date?
Will the Pc User have to wait till everything is ironed out on the console(think the rework of UI and such things will take a while longer then just the other updates) or will we get the GotY-edition-Upgrades a little earlier?
And what about those balance changes?
Will they be integrated in the Goty-edition and don't come sooner then the Console-release?

Oh, and thanks for your feedback @ Sea.

Will these visual upgrade make the game more power hungry? Will we be able to lower details to still have it run well on our older PCs like it runs now?

There's one question that I don't see asked anywhere: Will backers get XB1 or PS4 access automatically?

Doubtful. InXile has been generous to its backers, but I would be surprised if they were that generous.

Not that I'd mind, obv.

Even if they wanted to, they couldnt, without discussing some deal woth sony and ms.Thats one of the things that is shitty about consoles.

I have same questions as others, is the new patch "attached" to console versions so it wont come out before console versions, or is it separate ?

Also answer to a weird question before, im not begrudging anyone. But you have answered your question inside of it.They do kickstarters for every game, and sell it aterwards also, so they are getting money BEFORE the game is made.So this whole question is either wrongly constructed or has a logic flaw. They need money to do games, yes, and they are getting it before the game, and also after, so they certainly have the money to make games. At least, they had for 2.

Errgh, just the thought of trying to lockpick or disarm with a gamepad makes me want to vomit, I'd love to see someone try to get past the LA Aqueduct by disarming every mine with a pad, even better if they try to use the stick to pixel hunt the cursor over every mine, they'll prob go insane first.

But hey, if it turns a profit for Inxile good for them!

But the PC GOTY edition won't be "dumbed down" to the console-level and both games will be separated? Auto-targeting on buried items/mines (or reduction of them) is a must when you use gamepad, but ppl don't mind pixel hunting on pc (to a certain degree ofc). Same with menus, inventory-management, etc. InXile will be crucifixed by players if after "goty-patch" we'll see on PCs something as terrible as console-ish Witcher 2 UI "because unification".

I think the announced new features and updates tackle most feedback and criticism made.

Perks for the character system, aimed shots for combat, better looking character models for your rangers. And a balance pass. That pretty much sums up a big part of suggesitions made by reviewers. I also read loot will be less random. Thats also good. I also think better graphics and more voice overs are a welcome addition nobody will dislike.

But some things werent mentioned or adressed in the news updates from inXile. For example what about new features or an update for local map/mini map? It seems navigating through the wastelands is still a problem many people experience. Related to this some people still seem to like an overhaul of camera movement. What i would also like to mention, that some people disliked the micromanagment when opening hundreds of (trapped) crates or other containers with loot.

Personally i think there is one big problem which doesnt get the attention it should have, for two reasons: its a boring topic and you cant put your finger on it so easily. Im talking about "pacing" or the time some actions need to be completed. Of course im talking basically about how long traveling can take and how long skill uses can take. Theres hould be an option to reduce the time a skill needs to get performed, and there should be some sort of fast traveling to reduce traveling time. I read many reviewers who said after dozen of hours they lost interest in performing the same tasks again and again. I think this is also related to the time those tasks take to be completed.

THIS. I constantly heard of console gamers spewing hatred calling PC gamers elitist while in every forum section, you will see them cry "What is the point of me buying a PS4/XB1 if this game is available for PC?" or taunt you with "Stop begging you filthy pirate. If you want to play the game please buy a console". Then you see them go to every PC exclusive forums asking "nicely"... "This game looks awesome. Any chance this game can come to consoles?". Their elitism and double standard is as worse as racism.
