Ambush and serial killer not working in coop ps4

During my coop sessions my coop buddy does not get the benefit of serial killer, they are minus 1 ap but do not get the plus 3 for a kill even when I can see they do on my screen. Their attempts to ambush also do not proc like even when an enemy has run right past a character using ambush with a pistol.
