"Expedition: Vikings" is a new historical party-based RPG made by Logic Artist, a group of devs who are best known for previously making "Expedition: Conquistadors".

As the name implies, it's a game where the player will take on the role of a Viking chieftain. They are tasked with acquiring a ship, building a crew, and then seeking wealth and glory by whatever means they deem necessary. The player will have some control over whether they want to focus more on raiding or trading, as well as deciding which factions to work with or against.

The game will release this upcoming Thursday (April 27th), and will retail for $29.99 USD. There will also be a Deluxe Edition for $34.99 USD, which will include an digital art book and OST.

To help build hype for the game, "Expedition: Conquistadors" is free to play on Steam this weekend.

Personally, I'll be snagging this game on day one. I had some misgivings about the mechanics in "Expedition: Conquistadors", but it appears that they have made substantial improvements in their new game. At a glance, it appears to have a more in-depth character development system, more complex turn-based combat mechanics, and a new "village management" system that allows you to help guide the growth of your Viking homestead.

EDIT - It is worth noting that, unlike Expedition: Conquistadors, the new game is a more linear, story-driven experience. It's still a role-playing game with turn-based tactical combat, but the developers made the conscious decision to move away from the sandbox style of Conquistadors to focus more on a narrative-driven game. Replayability will come in the form of making different dialogue decisions and exploring different story paths.
