Given that Cleve has been saying it's "NEARLY DONE ONLY 15 MICRO-BUGS LEFT" for YEARS now, I will only believe Grimoire is real when it's up on Steam/GOG and can be played from beginning to end.

I'm also hearing reports that it's basically a lift of another game.

It sucks though because from what I played of the superdemo, Grimoire is exactly my type of CRPG, I can't help but feel a bit excited at the possibility of it ever being released, even if it's a false hope.

Likewise.

Frankly, even if it is a reskin, I'd probably buy it anyway. It looks delightfully old school.

Well, it's greenlit now, so the ball is in Cleve's court to prove that Grimoire is real.

You probably don't want to go down that rabbit hole, but if you must there's a thread on RPGCodex called "Why did Sir-Tech go bankrupt"...

Grimoire is released and purchasable on steam right about now. 10% off in the first week. The developer stated this will be the only price reduction ever.

I would like to give it a try but to be hones i would love to see if you guys enjoy it first, i like blobbers but it was not the genre (well apart from Dungeon master and Stonekeep) i grew up with

Reviews seem pretty mixed at the moment, with a lot of people pointing at serious bugs and bad UI as their main complaints.

I was a bit interested in the game, but if it's going to be held firm at a $40 price-tag, then I'm probably never going to end up getting it. I'm just not seeing enough positive buzz around it to justify the expense.

well a few of the issues have already been fixed, the mixed reviews are also a mixed bag since the dev has quite a history which influence those.

for my part i can not justify the price tag either, not as long as these early issues exist and i dont know if the game is any good, its a lengthy genre though so its a matter of time before any reviews can accurately point to the actual content, rather than the games functions.

I'm not sure what to make really, if what Cleve says is true and he has been working on the game for 20 years, then he must be an exceptionally uncompetent programmer for there still to be so many bugs in the game. Or this isn't true and he only started making the game a few years ago (when he launched the crowdfunding campaign), and the original demo was something he made long ago and then he abandoned the project. I think the latter is more likely.

That price though, lol, that's like $50 when converted to AUD, no-one except the most hardcore RPGers are going to pay that much, and even I (who certainly fits into that category) will probably wait until a sale. Cleve actually could of made Grimoire into a bit of a sleeper hit if he sold it at 15-20 bucks.

Just regarding the bugs:

Just from my experience from working as a QA. Its impossible to squash all bugs and this should not be used to judge ones competency regarding his programming skills. The problem here is that he worked alone and had only a very limited hardware/software range to test things on.

Just regarding that, a lot of players confirm that they can play with only bugs that arent critical, if fixed thats definitely good enough for a one man show.

Its just i have a lot of respect for a software that has been done by one person and i can live with bugs its not like he hired a external QA team or does it Inhouse like a AAA-company

It's not about whether the game is worth that price as an actual product. It's more like buying a piece of history, contributing to the monument of one man's madness. Is it a ripoff, of course it is, but there's something about getting ripped off with your eyes open, submitting to the grandeur of the idea, reality notwithstanding. It's buying an obviously fake piece of the True Cross, only instead of our Lord in heaven you're lending your dollars to the very Ghost of True Old School RPGs.

It will be funny when the SJWs find Cleve's posting history though.
