I see I need to start my replay playthrough just to do RNC properly. On my first run I managed to piss off all the NPCs and had to shoot my way out.

Titan by far. It is the only place that has offered some serious moral choices and fun food for thought, and I feel like there is a satisfactory number of ways to finish the section. Wish the whole game was like this. I haven't finished the game yet, but LA seems to be a bit of a disappointment.

Depending on what you do, Canyon of Titan has one of the best looking maps, by the way. Just sucks that you walk through it in a minute and then never come back again. (This is how I would imagine a canyon too, by the way. A natural cliff, and it is *huge* - exactly the kind of scenes that are missing in the game.)

Whoever did the entire Canyon of Titan should have been lead design for the whole game. They seem to have known what they were doing.

Probably AG center. I agree the level of detail, Puzzles dropped off after that. Also it was the only area that felt like it made an attempt at honoring the original.

Could have been Titan Canyon if it hadn't so many bugs and plain badly written scripts that prevent from exploring a lot, doing a lot that matters, or simply fully enjoy it.

Favourites overall? Canyon of Titan, tied with Angel Oracle probably, most interesting areas overall.

Visually and aesthetically? Titan, Ranger Citadel, Angel Oracle, Hollywood and Damonta. Those are the best looking areas in the game, both in pure aesthetics and kind of feeling like places people live or lived. Damonta isn't a favourite overall because it just felt like a dungeon, rather than a place.

Questwise? Canyon of Titan, Rodia. Rodia isn't a favourite overall because the buildings in the map are pretty ugly to me, Rodia would of benefited from the hollywood indoor/outdoor seperation.

Note: I havent played Ag centre properly, so i can't comment.

The citadel where you kill Matthias and go to arm the bomb, then have Kekkahbah say he will push the button, but guess what? He doesn't and your team dies! love it! Never trust anyone!

It's hard to choose.

In general I like the green/overgrown wasteland more than the desert wasteland. This includes Rail Nomad Camp and all of LA. It's a post-apocalyptic setting we don't see often enough.

Rodia is a pretty good high point, lots of options there and ways to play things out, be sneaky, just a lot of stuff to do in general with good writing.

Visually I like the Rail Nomad Camp and Angel Oracle with their interesting locations.

Caveat that I haven't finished the game yet... currently wrapping up the Hollywood/Loz Feliz stuff.

But I think that when it's fully polished, Hollywood will be my favorite place. There's just so much personality crammed into that area. I love the concept that the city continues to be a place where people are drawn to "make it big", whatever that really means in this world. I love the graveyard, and I took the time to reach each and every gravestone. The brothel is, wow. I had to kill the speakers and kick my kids out of my office. Kind of bold. Even the chick walking around singing "Walken in LA". I had to bring that song up and give it a couple of listens. Awesome gun shop, run by a cocky French Rambo wanna be. Hotel California... a place where apparently you can check in any time you like, but you can never leave. You can even gamble away all your scrap, if you're not careful. I loved the TV "chats" with Matthias.

It's just a cool area. One of the few places that life isn't totally dreary, aside from Angel Oracle I guess.

But definitely needs a good amount of bugfixing and polish.

Well, strangely enough I really liked Damonta. Mostly because OMG ROBOTZ!!! And the little pet robot. Cute.

Ag center is clearly the... richest experience in the game. I agree Titan's canyon is also fun.

I posted some of this in other threads, but...

I love Los Angeles as a whole better than Arizona.

However, Rail Nomads is probably my favorite individual area.

Rodia was fun and I think Hollywood could be great when fixed up, but it's the flavor of the factions, radio signals and the smaller maps (like Priest murders, ambushes and such, that make LA for me).

Cant say what my favorite map of the game is yet, haven't finished it, but I like the layout of the Ranger Citadel, always like returning to it, after I've been roaming the wastes.

Can't really decide for one specific area... I quite liked Whittier and the Nun's hideout, for the brutal unexpected combat, but the maps themselves are nothing special.
I definitely missed out on some side quests in the valley of the Titan on my first run, same in Rodia (shooting first and asking questions later leads to fewer quests, who would have guessed? ), so I will keep my eyes open in my current second playthrough.

Haven't finished -- *just* finished getting the... materials... needed for the +5 rad suits, haven't gone exploring with them so far.

Of the areas I have seen, the ones that stand out have been

- Titan's Canyon, mostly because of the black comedy (in particular, the episode where two arguing idiots with Monk escorts threaten to have their Monks explode the other... and do. M.A.D. indeed!) and other absurdities (why, oh why, do DBM soldiers tend to drop certain toys...)

and

- Angel Oracle, for the contrasts -- extremely polite but seemingly very well equipped Civility Enforcement Officers and the like. Also, it featured the first quiz in a long time that I strongly considered deliberately flunking. (There's a certain eight-letter word that perhaps might be worth saying to Mr. Manners the first time you meet him... hm. ;)) Was a little surprised at being peacefully welcomed in since I'd had some hostile interactions with Robbinsons outside AO in random encounters, though.

Whittier was also an unusually interesting situation, because it forces the player to react while on dangerous ground rather than seize the initiative with seven characters in carefully chosen positions firing a volley at the highest-priority target as it obliviously waits. The setup is a little contrived (the distress call is pretty suspicious, frankly, and you don't stay alive by assuming that everything is what it claims to be...), but *as a fight* it works well without being utterly overwhelming (at least on the normal 'seasoned' difficulty).

whittier kicked my arse about 8 times and i had no saves to get out of it to prepare.

just before the first attempt i was planning to heal everyone up and reload as it was an obvious trap. i didn't expect it to be that sudden though. and my squad wasn't setup for that kind of combat, three brawlers, two snipers, a pistol, smg and assault rifle.

i think i'll reserve judgement on a favourite area until i finish but so far (in hollywood) i'm not fond of any of them. i actively despise ag centre though. i didn't mind rodia, but getting the microscope back from the doc

Rodia was amazing - very heavy on dialogue, and the fights were interesting and very well spaced - great pacing. Highpool (saving Highpool) was neat - I'd maybe trim 1-2 trash packs and the switches-power "puzzle" thing, but the area as a whole was immersive and interesting. Angel Oracle is great, too (and Hollywood disregarding bugs). Actually, California after the first map is pretty superb.

I disliked Damonta most, I think. The atmosphere was cool, but there was just so many fights against trash packs of robots that were completely nonthreatening (on SJ difficulty). Felt very disrespectful of a player's time. (see also: Infected Village/Pumping Station/Farm. I think I took 0 damage over these maps, and there was nothing of note there.)

I note that a few people in thread said they really liked Damonta - so out of curiosity: What made it your favorite area? What did you think of the combat experience there?

I liked Damonta. The atmosphere was awesome. I loved checking through every section and every building to see what I'd find. The Tinker battle and the Slicer Dicers were great fun, with a few hard to find turrets added for good measure. So what if a few of the battles were on the easy side. Your rangers should be quite the potent fighting force by that time, and able to get through some combats unscathed. That didn't bother me in the slightest.

Ranger Citadel.

Growing up, I played everything I could get my hands on but I always gravitated back to Wasteland again and again. Even after the key for time lapse (ESC?) broke so it had to be manually retracted every time you pushed it, I played Wasteland until the Commodore was worn down to a nub.

As such, when judging Wasteland 2, my first question is "Does it make me feel like I'm playing Wasteland?"

Through and through, I have felt very satisfied with the game (marathon sprinting suicide-monks notwithstanding  ) but the area that I felt was really heads and shoulders above the others is definitely Ranger Citadel. Whoever built it simply captured the tone and feel of it, and needs a big pat on the back.

Honourable mentions go to Damonta, Valley of Titan and last but certainly not least: Hollywood, which definitely gave me the same sense of nefariousness Las Vegas did in the first installment, which I expect was the point.

On the flip side, my biggest disappointment was the end sequences. Where Wasteland had Sleeper Base, Darwin Village and finally Base Cochise, the end sequence in Wasteland 2 is just a long string of fights against generic opponents which leaves me feeling a bit unsatisfied. Coincidentally, not entirely unlike Liberty Prime sequence in Fallout 3 which at least had a lovely giant robot to watch while slogging forward in an "exciting" corridor.

Here's hoping for more puzzles in Wasteland 3.
