abandoned trainyard question

so i ran through the trainyard hoping for robot parts

after clearing the place out i discover a disabled synth named vax. the only interaction that seemed to work was software specialist and even then he just says something over and over with increasing repetition

anyone have any ideas if i missed something or is getting it from totally unresponsive to slightly worse than before considered the win?

Oh, nice! VAX is a recruitable character from the original game! He was formerly in the Ranger Graveyard, giving the impression that he had "died", but I guess since they removed him they decided to place him at the Abandoned Railyard. It might just be an easter egg, but given the direction things have been moving lately I'm going to guess that he actually has at least a minor unmarked quest attached to him.

I'll check it out later tonight, but in the meantime I'd suggest trying to boost your Computer Science skill and repairing him. If that doesn't get any results, try going back to the Ranger Citadel and talking to some of the folks there (Vargas and Mercaptain spring to mind). It might also be worth at least temporarily grabbing Angela and then taking her out there with you, if she wasn't with you already, because she's been active in the rangers long enough to have personally met VAX in the past (and possibly even played a role in recruiting him in the first place).

Confirmed. You can repair Vax with computer science skill (I"m at level 8) but all he does repeat the same thing over and over and it does follow you all over the Abandoned Train yard.

This seems like an instance where Angela Deth should have some dialogue if she's still in your group.

Just visited Vax myself, and I think he's actually broken. Not, like, "a broken robot that needs to be repaired" (well, he's that too), but actually broken as in "coded wrong in the game". His insane bouncing dialogue bubble and error message seems like an actual, genuine game error. But I could be wrong.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

good to see i wasn't the only one stumped by his current reaction to being repaired.

i tried using a monitor i found somewhere on him to no avail. but my tech specialist did try to use the monitor so it may require parts i don't have to fix him

I was able to repair Vax with my Science specialist "Computer science 8". He had some lines to the effect of saying "I'm Vax Human Cyborg Relations, I Imprint on the first human that activates me". (Not a direct quote!) After that no further Dialogue.

He then followed me out of The Train yard. I had already killed all the robots. Shortly after leaving the train yard I had an encounter with raiders. He killed two of them and ended combat but then For some reason he self-destructed!

I was thinking he would be a lot of help back in Damonta but if he is only good for one fight then he's somewhat useless.

Huh, lucky you .-. I just got the regular error message about states and whatever. Maybe its supposed to work like this?: If you use computer skill, you activate him but he malfunctions and blows up later unless you also repair him with items or something?

It'd be little lame if he just explodes. Did a grave for him appear in citadel at least? xP

Tested again with the exact same results. got him he followed me but self-destructed after the first encounter with raiders. I tried using the quest item "Display screen" on him before leaving the train yard but it did nothing. Not sure what else I would use to try to fix him.

Unfortunately, when I wen't back to Ranger Citadel to see if there was a new grave but No there wasn't one for him.

The only thing I can think to suggest is maybe trying to get him to the Ranger Citadel without encountering any enemies. I know that's a bit far-fetched, but nothing else is springing to mind. Does he drop anything when he self destructs?

The first time he didn't drop anything the second time he dropped a junk Synth eye.

I have a save after killing the slicer dicers and before getting him so I'll test again and get him back to ranger citadel and report back. Fortunately I have high outdoorsman skill so I should be able to skip most encounters. In my early tests with him I went into the encounters to see what he would do.

Edit: Took him back to Ranger Citadel talked to everyone there and no one even noticed he was with me. Same as night terror.

Hmm, I hope there is more to VAX and Night Terror than just weird follower thing

I mean, VAX is character from first game, would be pity to have him just for sake of blowing up

..Though I'm not surprised if point of Night Terror is to annoy player until they give it enough "candy" to make him sleep

I actually haven't messed with the Night Terror all that much. Does anything actually happen with him? I let him out briefly at one point, watched him follow me around for a short bit, then reloaded to an earlier save and went about my business.

I let him be around me until Damonta. He doesn't do anything expect make random comments ranging from funny to kinda cute to almost creepy. Hes just kinda annoying

If you give him enough "candy"(which is anything from humans or animals. Skin, nutsacks, eyes, brains, meat, etc) he falls asleep and stops following you forever. So yeah, not sure if there is any other point to having 8000 hp green thing that does nothing in combat following you around besides for sake of annoying player <_<

Night Terror just seems to follow the team around making little comments along the way. He doesn't fight doesn't seem to get attacked. I've had him for a long time to see what he does but it's not much of anything.

As usual, I have to ask:

1. Did you load a save from an earlier version of the game, or start a brand-new game entirely on this newest version?

2. If it's a brand-new game, please send a save file near Vax to support@inxile.net so I can test it out and try to reproduce it.

Yup, brand new game. I went ahead and packed up a test save from right before I talked to him, and sent it along.

Vax seems to be working for me I'm on the Mac OX version of the game if that makes any difference.

Edit: Forgot to say also a new game with the latest build. If for some reason you want a Mac OS save just let me know.

I really hope they improve VAX if his intended role is just to explode

I mean, the original grave for VAX is more respectful than having him just explode <_< At least have the grave appear after he explodes if devs aren't going to do anything more about that...

Awesome that Vax is in the game! However, I also have the same bug: Started brand new game, when I try to interact with Vax I get nothing. I use computer science on Vax and it says "!!An error sccured. No enumerator matched state name!!!". Cannot interact with Vax at all. Seems to me that this is a coding error or something...
